UFO Challenge 2012

Judy at Patchwork times has challenged us to get at least one project done a month. So here are my twelve.

#1 My first project for paper piecing was a quilt from Linda Hibert. I have all of the pieces now and just have to get them all done and put together.

#2 My civil war Quilt. This one was started over a year ago as a block of the month. A lot of us got stuck on month seven. The only thing left for this is Quilting binding and a label.
#3 My mom finished these house blocks and then gave then to me to put into a top. I just need a border quilting, binding and label.
#4 These Dresden blocks were started YEARS ago. When my kids were very little. It's time they get into a quilt and are done.
#5 These are small little blocks a group of my internet friends and I did. They have been waiting for some time to be put together. I think I will make them into a small wall hanging.
#6 These were from another internet group. I need to put my jars on a shelf.
#7 This one needs a border and quilting.
#8 These blocks are for the American Beauty. My mom started them and then gave them to me to finish.
#9 This was a block of the month and just needs to be quilted bound and labeled.
# 10 Same thing with this one.
#11 I will have the border on this one this afternoon and then it needs to be quilted bound and labeled. (I decided against the sequins).
#12 This is another one my mom gave me to finish. I just love these colors.
I really thought I would have to search for unfinished projects, but unfortunately it was easier than I thought. I really hope I can get all of these done this year.

This was a six month mystery at my LQS. I haven't put the boarder on yet, because I am still deciding. The sparkles on it are sequins. My husband doesn't think that would be very comfortable on a quilt and I should just use plain black. What do you think?

Design Wall Monday: Quilt of Valor

A woman in my block of the month is collecting quilt tops and completed quilts for the quilts of Valor. She is getting them specifically for the Vietnam vets of Loveland. She handed out kits to put together. I worked on this all day yesterday and finished at 10 last night.
And I finally got my stash all organized.

The family took a wonderful hike in the high country. We expected to see lots of colors. We did. On the drive to the hike. The trees where we hiked had not really changed yet. It was a bit disappointing, but it was a fun wonderful hike above 10K feet.

Loveland has an annual balloon festival. It's nothing like the one in New Mexico, but it's fun to go down and watch them blow the balloons up and take off. Most of them have baskets but not this guy. There are always a lot of people looking up on this morning.

This is the only yellow in my yard. For that matter it is really the only yellow any where around me (except in my quilting stash). It won't be long and this yellow will be gone too. I'm not looking forward to winter, I've really enjoyed summer.

Design Wall Monday: Trying to organize

The quilt above is for my sister and brother in law (Mike's brother and his wife). We had to pick our own backgrounds. Everyone kind of rolled their eyes at my green color choice, but I really like it. The reason it is on the floor instead of my design wall is because I am trying to organize my stash. My daughter is helping me to organize. We are separating all the fabric into 6 different color groups, then we will separate them into size. We'll see how that goes and how it will get me organized.

Design Wall Monday: Civil War

Okay So this is not on my design wall. It's huge and would not fit up there, so todays is actually a design floor. This is my Civil war quilt. It was started about a year and a half ago. Month seven brought most of us to a screeching halt. There were eight blocks and they were all paperpieced. Being realitivly new to quilting I didn't know how to paperpiece (I do now, but I really love to paper piece and make pictures) I had the stacks of fabric all cut and ready to piece but every time I looked at them I didn't want to work on it. I finally put everything away in its box, so I didn't have to look at it. That seemed to work, because LOOK, all the blocks are done. Yesterday I put all the blocks together and put the border on, so the top is done, now I just have to quilt and bind it, but that will be a while still as I have to go and rent the long arm for that.

This is my fairy quilt godmother. I received this pattern from Paper Panache. Everyone recieves a different pattern depending on what you answered to a few questions. Mine looks a little mad. I imagine she is staring down at my sewing table where I have a few blocks unfinished for my civil war quilt.

My husbands Quilt

This is my husbands quilt. I knew I wanted to make him a quilt when I started going to the Sweetheart Quilt shop over a year ago. This was a block of the month. I really enjoyed learning so much about quilting through this and my thimbleberries quilt through the year. (I still have to finish my civil war quilt). I am the type of person, when I get into something I jump in head first. I began three quilts with in just a couple of months of each other. Since then I have started many more. Every time there is a mystery quilt I join in. I am really loving quilting and I am beginning to understand more of the whys of things. I am also learning to long arm quilt. This was my first quilt on a longarm machine. There is a place in Ft Collins that rents the machine to you. Here is the back of the quilt to show you what I did. I really think I am hooked.

These house blocks were done by my mom a few years ago. She didn't like them, but I asked her to give them to me anyway. When I got them, I had just started going to the quilt shop. They helped me to figure out how to set them. While I was cutting the purple I realized I didn't have enough, but I found a fat quarter in my closet. I'm not sure if you can see it, but the purple on the bottom is just a bit darker than the purple in the rest of the quilt. the finished product does not look like this (I haven't finished yet.) I moved the dark purple around so now it is a stairstep all the way down and looks better in the quilt. I love having a design wall now.

T-shirt quilt

When Mike and I were first married, he had a bunch of t-shirts that were getting ragged. I told him I would make him a quilt out of them. (I had heard of this done before, but never actually seen it done.) I began to put them all together, but put it away for a while, (you know working, then new babies, homeschooling, you know life). When we moved to Colorado, I began going to a quilt shop and saw they had a class for t-shirt quilts. I took the class last year and was able to put the top together, but I had somehow made a mistake. I again put it to the side and didn't touch it. Recently I took it back out. I have been going to the quilt shop pretty consistently over the past year and I have learned a lot. I was able to fix my mistake and finish the quilt. I gave it to Mike for Christmas this year (only about 14 years after I started it.) It is now hanging in my school room.

First off we had Bubba's soccer game. It was played well and the kids had a good time even if it was Drizzly and freezing.

Then we made our way over to Princess' art steps program she was at. They did painting in the open air (rain and all). There 100 kids and only 30 could be selected to be put on display at the Museum. Can you tell hers was one picked?
